Transferring Scout & Registered Adult

  1. Complete the official BSA youth and/or application. Mark as a transfers on your application.
  2. Complete parts A&B of the BSA Health Form. This does not require a physicians signature. For scouts and adults participating in outings. (http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/HealthandSafety/ahmr.aspx).
  3. If you are transferring from a troop who has individual Scout accounts your unit can transfer funds. Provide our treasurer with supporting documentation and contact information of your old troop’s treasurer.
  4. Request your old council send an individual membership report to you. Then send a copy to our advancement/membership coordinator.
  5. Request your old troop send any information on your activities to Troop 278. Then send a copy to our advancement/membership coordinator. The Advancement/Membership Coordinator will send the information to Council.
  6. The National Registration Fee is only charged once per year, per person. If you are registered in another council in the current calendar year you can be marked as transfers on you application and do not need to pay the $33. Checks payable to “BSA Troop 278.”
  7. If you have already paid $12 for Scout’s Life fee (Boy’s Life) for the current calendar year, you do not need to pay Troop 278. If not, pay $12 per household. Checks payable to “BSA Troop 278.”
  8. Dues, which are different from the fees above, do not transfer between units. Dues are $120 per year which cover troop costs for facilities, equipment, and trips. If you join in the middle of the year, dues will be prorated at $10/month. Checks payable to “BSA Troop 278.”
  9. If you are coming from a Unit that was not using Scoutbook and want your advancements to show up in our system, get a “Person Profile” from the Council you came from and provide to our Advancement/Membership Coordinator. The Advancement/Membership Coordinator will send the information to Council. This is not that important for Cub Scouts, but is very important for Scouts BSA scouts. If you earned merit badges in another council, we will not be able to see them when they apply for their Eagle.
